Does Health Sharing Cover Diabetes?

By The WhichHealthShare EditorsReviewed August 2026
Short answer

It depends on the ministry and on type 1 versus type 2. Zion HealthShare can share type 1 and type 2 diabetes from day one if the member was not hospitalized for diabetes in the prior 12 months and can manage diabetes with medication or diet. Sedera can share non-insulin diabetes from day one under a three-year hospitalization look-back. Most other payable plans treat diabetes as pre-existing and make you wait. Health sharing is not insurance.

The chronic-conditions hub already talks about diabetes among other diagnoses. This unused URL is the diabetes money query people type. The information gain is the type 1 versus type 2 split: Zion HealthShare names both in the day-one list; Sedera names non-insulin diabetes only; Samaritan Ministries excludes type 1 forever.

Does health sharing cover diabetes?

It depends on the ministry and on type 1 versus type 2. Zion HealthShare can share type 1 and type 2 diabetes from day one if the member was not hospitalized for diabetes in the prior 12 months and can manage diabetes with medication or diet. Sedera can share non-insulin diabetes from day one under a three-year hospitalization look-back. Most other payable plans treat diabetes as pre-existing and make you wait. Health sharing is not insurance.

Does Zion HealthShare share type 1 diabetes from day one?

Zion HealthShare lists type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes as day-one carve-outs when the member was not hospitalized for those conditions in the 12 months before joining and can manage them with medication or diet. That is broader than Sedera, which names non-insulin diabetes only. Zion HealthShare individual shares run $114–$320 per month. Sharing is never guaranteed. Confirm the January 2026 guidelines before you enroll.

Does Sedera share diabetes the same way Zion HealthShare does?

No. Sedera can share non-insulin diabetes — most type 2 — from day one if the member was not hospitalized for that condition in the prior three years and controls it with medication or diet. Insulin-dependent diabetes does not qualify for that Sedera carve-out. Maintenance medications are excluded. Zion HealthShare names type 1 and type 2 in the day-one list with a 12-month hospitalization look-back. This page hops Zion HealthShare.

Does Samaritan Ministries share type 1 diabetes?

No. Samaritan Ministries permanently excludes type 1 diabetes. This site does not enroll Samaritan Ministries and does not name Samaritan Ministries as a winner. Christian Healthcare Ministries treats diabetes as pre-existing until 12 months symptom- and treatment-free. Medi-Share uses a 36-month pre-existing wait. CrowdHealth keeps pre-existing needs ineligible for two years. None of those rules are insurance.

If I already take insulin, which payable plan should I model first?

Model Zion HealthShare first among the payable hops. Zion HealthShare is the only payable plan whose file lists type 1 diabetes as a day-one carve-out, with the no-hospitalization and manage-with-medication caveats. Sedera’s day-one diabetes note is non-insulin only. Knew Health, HSA Secure, Medi-Share, and CrowdHealth apply ordinary pre-existing waits. Zion HealthShare requires no faith statement. Sharing is never guaranteed.
