Illinois Health Sharing Plans 2026: Knew Health Is Out — Here Is Who Still Enrolls

Illinois does not punish you for skipping ACA coverage. It also does not force every national membership to take your address. Knew Health’s official Membership Availability page lists Illinois among the states not accepting new members. That is the IL-specific fact a national “best of 2026” list will miss.

This is the unused year-stamped URL for Illinois. It does not recut the national ranking or the Illinois state directory.

Illinois legal status

Mandate: None. Illinois is not on NCSL’s individual-mandate roster (that list is CA, MA, NJ, RI, DC, and in some trackers VT). No IL shared-responsibility payment.

Insurance: Sharing is not insurance. NAIC consumer guidance applies in Illinois the same as everywhere: no guarantee fund, no IDOI claim file for a refused need.

Not a ban. Illinois has not enacted a statute that outlaws health sharing. The shorter menu is company policy, not a Springfield prohibition. Do not tell an Illinois reader that sharing is “illegal here.” It is not.

Who can actually enroll an Illinois household

Individual vs family cost

Chicago and downstate quotes on the ACA exchange move with income and county. Sharing prices on these memberships do not change by Illinois zip — they change by age, IUA, and household size.

Zion (live table): individual $114–$320, couple $205–$617, family $334–$899.

CrowdHealth: individual under 55 $60–$200; family of four $240–$660. Two-year pre-existing ineligibility.

Medi-Share: individual $115–$470; family $390–$850. Faith required. 36-month pre-existing wait.

Sedera Prime+ with TRU (if the IL address is accepted): about $88–$413 individual, $325–$1,175 family, quote-based. Do not treat a quote as a filed IL premium.

Run subsidy eligibility at HealthCare.gov (Illinois uses the federal marketplace). If the credit is large, the ACA plan usually wins on total cash even when the sticker looks high.

Winner: Zion HealthShare

Knew Health is off the board for new IL members, so the secular/any-faith payable set is Zion, CrowdHealth, HSA Secure, and (if the form accepts you) Sedera. Zion is the paid winner: no faith requirement, live rate table, day-one exceptions for hypertension, cholesterol, and diabetes when the 12-month hospitalization test is met. Medi-Share is the paid Christian option, not the default. We do not recommend CHM, Samaritan, or Presidio as the winner, and we do not invent a /go for unpaid ministries.

Illinois-specific notes

Knew Health’s Darien, IL headquarters does not reopen enrollment. A company can be based in a state and still refuse new members there. Official availability is the page linked above, not the mailing address.

Advocate, Northwestern, Rush, OSF, Carle. No-network memberships mean you negotiate cash. Medi-Share’s PPO is the payable plan with a contracted list.

Medicaid / All Kids. If household income is in the Illinois Medicaid range, do not replace that coverage with sharing. Sharing does not satisfy Medicaid’s role and does not get you a medical card.

When Illinois ACA coverage still wins

Subsidy-eligible households, anyone in active treatment, and anyone who needs a legal duty to pay should stay on Get Covered Illinois / HealthCare.gov.
