Michigan Health Sharing Plans 2026: Legal Status, DIFS Context, and Who Can Enroll

Michigan does not run a state individual mandate. The payable plans we enroll will take a Michigan address. The Michigan-specific story in 2025–2026 is consumer-protection enforcement against a plan we do not send you to, not a ban on health sharing. That distinction is the information gain on this URL.

This page does not recut the national 2026 ranking or the Michigan state directory.

Michigan’s legal status

Mandate: None. Michigan is not on NCSL’s individual-mandate list. No MI shared-responsibility payment.

Insurance: Sharing is not insurance. NAIC guidance still applies: no guarantee fund, no automatic DIFS claim file that works like a licensed Blue Cross complaint.

DIFS context (do not over-read it). Michigan’s Department of Insurance and Financial Services issued an enforcement action in 2025 involving netWell (DIFS Case 25-18219) that questioned whether that organization qualified for a health-care-sharing-ministry exemption. That is a specific-entity action. It is not a statute that outlaws Zion, Medi-Share, CrowdHealth, Sedera, Knew Health, or HSA Secure. We do not recommend netWell, we do not enroll it, and we will not treat one case as “health sharing is illegal in Michigan.” If you want the primary document, ask DIFS for the case file rather than trusting a recap.

Not hostile to the payable set. Sedera’s official block list is WA, VT, PA, NM, CA. Knew Health’s is WA, VT, IL, NY, PA, MD, CA, OR. Michigan is on neither.

Individual vs family cost

Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Upper Peninsula ACA stickers differ. Sharing contributions on these memberships do not — they move with age, IUA, and household size.

Zion: $114–$320 individual, $205–$617 couple, $334–$899 family.

CrowdHealth: $60–$200 individual under 55; $240–$660 family of four. Two-year pre-existing ineligibility.

Medi-Share: $115–$470 individual; $390–$850 family. Faith required.

Auto-industry layoffs and 1099 shop work are why this query shows up in Michigan. If you qualify for a premium tax credit or Healthy Michigan Plan / Medicaid, start at MDHHS or HealthCare.gov (Michigan uses the federal marketplace). Sharing does not restore a union or OEM plan’s legal guarantees.

Winner: Zion HealthShare

All six payable plans enroll Michigan. Fit-then-pay-then-faith: Zion is the paid winner — no faith requirement, live 2026 bands, day-one exceptions for hypertension, cholesterol, and diabetes when the 12-month hospitalization test is met. Medi-Share is the paid Christian option, not the default. CrowdHealth if you are healthy and can accept crowdfunding. CHM and Samaritan are unpaid alternatives. Never the winner. Never an enroll button. Presidio is not a recommendation.

Michigan-specific notes

Corewell, Henry Ford, Michigan Medicine, Spectrum, Munson, UP Health. No-network memberships mean cash presentation. Winter ER and orthopedic volume is the IUA you should be able to write a check for.

DIFS is for licensed insurance. If a payable membership refuses a need, your path is the membership’s own guidelines and appeal process — not the same form you would file on a Priority Health denial.

Healthy Michigan Plan. If you qualify, keep it. Sharing is not a medical card.

When a Michigan ACA plan still wins

Subsidies, Healthy Michigan eligibility, active treatment, or a need for a legal duty to pay.
