The MEC component covers ACA-required preventive care — annual physicals, screenings, recommended vaccines — which is what qualifies the overall plan structure for HSA eligibility. Because that insurance component meets the IRS definition of a high-deductible-adjacent setup, you can open and contribute to a Health Savings Account (HSA) while enrolled.
