Do Health Sharing Plans Require a Faith Statement?

By The WhichHealthShare EditorsReviewed August 2026
Short answer

It depends on the plan. Health sharing is not insurance, and sharing is never guaranteed. Of the six payable plans, Medi-Share is the one that requires a Christian faith statement. Zion HealthShare, CrowdHealth, Sedera, Knew Health, and HSA Secure accept members of any faith or none.

Health sharing started in church communities, so a lot of people assume every plan still asks you to sign a Christian statement. That is no longer true. This page splits the six payable plans into the one that still requires a faith statement and the five that do not, using each ministry's published rules.

Which Payable Plans Require a Faith Statement?

Only Medi-Share. Members sign a Trinitarian Christian statement of faith, and active church involvement is expected. Medi-Share does not verify church attendance the way the older strict ministries do. Monthly individual shares run about $115 to $470 depending on age and Annual Household Portion.

Faith fields come from each ministry's published guidelines as tracked in our plan data files. Confirm current membership terms on the plan's own site before you enroll.

Which Payable Plans Have No Faith Requirement?

Five of the six. Zion HealthShare is classified as any-faith: no statement, no church attendance, members of any faith or none. CrowdHealth, Sedera, Knew Health, and HSA Secure are fully secular with the same open door. Zion is the highest-rated of that group at 4.8/5, with individual shares of $114 to $320, no provider network, and 75,000+ members.

CrowdHealth is secular crowdfunding rather than a classic ministry, with no faith component and typical individual cost around $140 per month under age 55. Sedera and Knew Health are secular sharing communities with no statement to sign. HSA Secure is Zion-powered and also requires no faith statement. Our non-religious plans guide and no-church-requirement answer walk through the secular options in more depth.

What Does Medi-Share Require From Members?

A Trinitarian Christian statement of faith. That is the enrollment gate. Medi-Share also expects active church involvement, but it does not require a pastor signature or attendance proof. It is the largest ministry we track, with 400,000+ members since 1993. If you can sign that statement honestly, Medi-Share is the payable Christian-statement plan. If you cannot, skip it and look at Zion or the other secular options above.

What About CHM and Samaritan Ministries?

Both are older Christian ministries with stricter gates than Medi-Share. CHM (Christian Healthcare Ministries) requires a strict Christian statement of faith and regular church attendance. Samaritan Ministries requires a strict Christian statement plus a pastor's verification of church attendance. We cover both in their full reviews because neither runs a referral program. There is no enrollment hop for either ministry on this page.

Does a Faith Statement Change Whether Bills Get Shared?

No. The statement is a membership filter, not a second review of each bill against your personal beliefs. After you join, sharing follows the ministry's published guidelines: eligible needs, waiting periods, and unshareable amounts. A signed statement does not turn sharing into insurance, and a secular plan does not make sharing more guaranteed. Payment stays voluntary on every plan.

Editor’s pick

Zion HealthShare

from $114/mo · 4.8

Zion accepts members of any faith or none, with no statement to sign and no church attendance check. That is why it is the hop on this page. Remember that health sharing is not insurance and sharing is never guaranteed.

So Which Plan Fits Your Beliefs?

Sign Medi-Share's Christian statement if that is an honest fit. If you want no statement and no church check, Zion HealthShare is the top-rated payable plan that takes you as you are. CrowdHealth, Sedera, Knew Health, and HSA Secure are the other secular payable doors. Health sharing is not insurance. Sharing is never guaranteed. Read the guidelines before you enroll.

What Else Should You Know About Faith Requirements?

Which payable health sharing plans require a faith statement?

Of the six payable plans, only Medi-Share requires a faith statement. Members sign a Trinitarian Christian statement of faith, and active church involvement is expected. Church attendance is not verified. Zion HealthShare, CrowdHealth, Sedera, Knew Health, and HSA Secure require no statement at all.

Does Zion HealthShare require Christian faith?

No. Zion HealthShare is classified as any-faith: it accepts members of any faith or none, requires no statement of faith, and does not require church attendance. That is why it is the enrollment hop on this page for readers who will not sign a Christian statement.

Can I join Medi-Share without going to church?

Medi-Share does not require proof of church attendance. It does require a Trinitarian Christian statement of faith, and it expects active church involvement. If you will not sign that statement, Medi-Share is not a fit. Zion HealthShare and the other secular payable plans will take you without it.

Do CHM and Samaritan Ministries require church attendance?

Yes. Both require a strict Christian statement of faith and regular church attendance. Samaritan Ministries asks for a pastor verification of attendance. Neither runs a referral program on this site, so we describe them in prose only and do not link enrollment.

Does a faith statement change whether a medical bill is shared?

The statement is an enrollment gate, not a bill-by-bill test of your beliefs. Once you are a member, sharing still follows each ministry's published guidelines. Health sharing is not insurance, and sharing is never guaranteed regardless of whether you signed a faith statement.
