Solidarity HealthShare: A Catholic Health Sharing Ministry

Solidarity is a legitimate health sharing option — but only for practicing Catholics. Here's what makes it different, and why we don't feature it on our main comparison list.

💡 Our Take

Solidarity HealthShare isn't a bad plan — it's a narrowly scoped one. It's built specifically for Catholics who want a health sharing solution aligned with their faith. If that's you, it's worth a look. But it's too restrictive to belong on a general-audience comparison list.

Why We Didn't Feature Solidarity

✝️ Requires Active Catholic Practice

Membership requires practicing Catholicism — attending Mass regularly and living according to Catholic moral teaching. This isn't a checkbox formality; Solidarity takes it seriously and it affects what gets shared. Procedures that conflict with Catholic teaching (including some contraceptive-related care) are explicitly excluded. Most of the plans we feature serve members of any faith background or none at all.

📊 Small Member Base

Solidarity's membership is significantly smaller than plans like Medi-Share or Samaritan Ministries. Smaller pools mean less risk distribution — individual high-cost cases can have an outsized impact on the community. The plans we feature have tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of members, providing more financial stability across unpredictable claim years.

📉 Limited Published Data

Like many smaller ministries, Solidarity doesn't publish detailed annual sharing statistics or audited financials publicly. We require this from featured plans so members can evaluate financial health independently.

Who Solidarity Is Right For

Practicing Catholics who specifically want a healthcare community built around their faith. The values alignment goes deeper than most Christian health sharing plans — it's not just a faith statement but an ongoing commitment. For the right person, that community element has real value.

For everyone else — including Christians who don't identify as Catholic — the plans we feature offer broader coverage, larger member pools, and more published transparency.
